Production Monitoring Blog 12th April 2011

Production Monitoring Blog 12th April 2011

This week I have completely finished my final product just in time and it was stressful and hard work but I got there in the end.

My front cover was already done, however my double page spread was no where near but this week I have done it and I am pleased with how it has turned out.

To create the effect of the three photos in a row on the left hand page I had to put the pictures into a seperate Photoshop document and draw a shape around it to create a 'framed' effect.

This is how the 'framed' effect turned out in the end after editing it in Photoshop first.

This is how my double page spread turned out after I had adding specific effects.

I decided to use a drop cap at the beginning of my article in order to draw the audience in and direct them to the start of it as it could have been quite confusing otherwise.

I had some trouble working the article around the background image as it was quite a large article and at first it didn't fit around the image properly and looked silly, however I just went back into the article and cut out a few un-necessary sentences in order for it too fit and it still had the same affect as before just not as much jargon.

I used the opacity tool on the green shape on the right hand page so that it was easier to read the black text behind.

Mock Ups

Mock Up projects

This is my mock up design of a double page spread using Adobe InDesign. It is quite simple and I have learnt a lot of skills since completing this project; including how to use different tools to create effects, especially simple and easy ones like strokes and drop shadows which are easy to create yet make a hug impact and final look to the product.

This week I have had some trouble with keeping on schedule due to having a lot of others tasks that needed to be completed. My target for this week was to complete most of my double page spread however I am still designing it and getting  aspects of it finished.

I also have had some trouble with the font and therefore I have decided to just use a couple of downloaded fonts and use normal fonts that are already installed on the computer for the rest of the text as it was slowing my progress down, however I am still pleased with the way it looks so I am not too bothered.

This is one of the new fonts I am using for my double page spread as it is nice and simple and appropriate for the effect I was looking to create for my target audience.

Next week I want to have completed everything to a satisfactory standard and ensure that I have everything as I desired and with the effects that I wanted to make it look more professional.

Skills Audit Final

This is my final skills audit evaluation and shows where I have improved and what new skills I have learnt since starting my project. I can now use Photoshop a lot more confidently than I ever could before.

Downloaded Fonts For My Final Product

Downloaded Fonts For My Final Product

This was the font I downloaded and used for my mast head, the 'recycle, reuse and reduce' words on the front cover, the quote and 'evaluaion' heading in the double page spread and a few other places.

I used this font for the words 'The Saturdays' as it looks similar to the font that the girl group has used for their album cover and therefore I wanted to have some sort of resembelance in order for my audience to know exactly what the meaning was of the image and final product.

I used this font for the title of the double page spread where it says 'A day in the life of...'.

Production Monitoring Blog 29th March 2011

Production Monitoring Blog 29th March 2011

This week I finished my article and put it into my double page spread. I was able to create a good introductory paragraph and a simple 'diary' structured main article to keep it simple and not bore the target audience. To conclude the article I made an evaluation summary of what could be done to combat some of the global warming issues that were raised within the main article, therefore informing the audience and giving them advice on what to do in similar situations.

I also completely finished my front cover with the main image, sell lines, strap lines, new fonts and other aspects all included and edited to finalise it. I added strokes and drop shadows to the mast head and a few of the images to make it stand out and stuck to my original three coded colour shceme of green, black and white.

My final front cover

I am still quite far behind and have hardly started to add anything to my double page spread yet and therefore I need to get up to speed with that and begin to add images etc to that in order to keep on schedule.
If I don't it may put me very far behind and this may affect my final product alltogether.

By next week I want to have nearly finished if not completely finished my double page spread and have it to a satisfactory standard and hopefully how I'd hoped it would look!
